About Cam Hunt
Committed to keeping Lee County safe and strong.
Son of Lee County
I was born and raised in Lee County, Alabama. I spent most of my childhood in Opelika before moving to Auburn at the age of fifteen. I graduated from Auburn High School in 2008, then attended Auburn University, where I studied Political Science with a concentration in International Relations.
During my freshman year, I was a proud member of the Auburn Tigers football program under Coach Tommy Tuberville. After that first year, I chose to step away from football and dedicate myself to being accepted into the United States Marine Corps officer selection program; a decision that set me on a lifelong path of service and leadership.
Service To Country
In 2012, after graduating from Auburn University, I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. I served as a field artillery officer with the 1st Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, holding leadership roles including Fire Support Team Leader, Howitzer Platoon Commander, and Battery Executive Officer.
I had the honor of leading Marines both stateside and abroad, and in 2017, I completed my service at the rank of Captain. My time in the Marine Corps instilled in me discipline, accountability, and an unwavering commitment to those I was entrusted to lead.
Coming Home to Serve
When my wife Kalyn and I were expecting our first child, Presley, we knew it was time to come home to Lee County to raise our family. Soon after, our family grew with the blessing of two more children — Parker and Barrett.
Inspired by my grandmother, Peggy Hunt, who was the first female certified police officer in Alabama and retired from the Opelika Police Department after 20 years of service. I followed in her footsteps into law enforcement.
I began my career at the Opelika Police Department in 2019, serving in the patrol division. While at OPD, I also served as a traffic homicide investigator, became a member of the Lee County SWAT team, earned certification as an FBI Firearms Instructor, and was certified as a Law Enforcement Sniper. In 2023, I joined the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, where I am honorably served until fall of 2025 when I was terminated by the current Sheriff for doing what God called me to do, run for Sheriff of Lee County.
Faith, Family, Service
Through every chapter of my life, as a Marine, as a deputy sheriff, as a husband and father, my Christian faith and my commitment to serving others have guided me. Lee County is not just where I live, it is where I belong, and it is the community I am dedicated to protecting.
